A Very Weill Evening of Verdi
Blending the timeless melodies of TWO of music's greatest genre defining composers.
Giuseppe Verdi, a man nearly destroyed by unbelievable tragedy in his early life, would go on to pen the revolutionary chorus Va Pensiero, the unofficial anthem of the oppressed and those yearning for freedom. His name was shouted in the streets, igniting the fire that would eventually forge Italy as a country.
And Kurt Weill, born only a year after the death of Verdi, would take up the struggle against another vile foe: Nazi Germany. Forced to abandon his home, Weill used his talents to shine and “make a thousand beautiful things during the short and troubled time he had” Barely 50 years old when he died of a heart attack, his music has been sung by icons such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Tom Waits, David Bowie, and the Doors.
